Barometer

The Human Barometer: A fundamental tool to understand and evaluate the quality of life of local communities and their environment through the videos produced by the “Voices of Madidi” filmmakers. It arises from the production of video testimonies by the community members themselves, without journalistic filters that could alter their genuine testimonies.

In this process, community members exchange views on a list of priority issues agreed upon by RFI Planète Radio and WCS. These topics range from environmental preservation to social and cultural concerns. The videos capture people’s voices and experiences, providing valuable material for analysis.

The Human Barometer is not limited to a single measurement; it can be repeated periodically (either biannually or triennially) to assess changes in local quality of life over time. Its approach is based on local people’s perceptions, making it a powerful tool for assessing the impact of conservation and development activities.

In the long term, the Human Barometer becomes an essential resource for monitoring the well-being of resident populations and understanding how their quality of life is evolving.
